Well, all the Slashcity sites, including mrks.org, appear to be back up, after going down over the weekend with a hardware problem. ZR and Robin again worked long hours to fix everything and get us going--thanks, ladies!

And I'm racing around like a lunatic, getting ready to go out of town today for a long weekend, so you have all been spared for the moment my ponderous ruminations on the end of summer, the start of school, the Minnesota State Fair, and other seasonal matters. (For the moment, I said. Ponderosity will doubtless ensue next week.)

"I'd learned on the highway and in the circus, in the army, and at boxing gyms that even if you have a cutman in your corner to stanch the blood, it doesn't obviate the need for stamina, self-reliance, and keeping oriented to what I think of as the earth's magnetic field. You can have allies, mentors, be married, but still you're going to be alone most of your life, and if you're going to run off the rails, you had better be good company for yourself."
