Christmas in New York City 2001

Patience or Fortitude?

I'm not sure if this one is Patience or Fortitude. The city often gives the stone lions in front of the main branch of the public library on 42nd Street decorations, such as lion-sized construction hats or wreaths. The red, white, and blue has been a major component of many of this year's Christmas displays.

Eternal voice...

She has nothing to do with Christmas; I just like her. This sculpture is also at the main branch of the public library on 42nd Street.

Firehouse

Memorials of this sort--tables holding flowers, candles, handmade placards, and photos of the departed--can be found outside every firehouse I've seen in the New York City area so far. Every house has a personalized banner thanking the community for its support.

This year's Bergdorf Goodman Christmas window displays

Bergdorf Goodman has a lot of windows. I only took pictures of my favorites, a few of the Victorian-looking "Virtues"-themed windows. The others have a silvery, snowy fairy tale kitsch New York on one side of the building and headless child mannequins in the same windows with fully intact adult mannequins on the other side. Creepy.
The glass here is very clean, which is why you have reflections of the street and my flash.

Hope
The window now showing "Hope" had previously contained only the American flag against a black background since September 11.
